About This Service
Clean water is the foundation of a healthy community. Without it, families face constant risk of waterborne diseases like cholera, typhoid, and hepatitis. Children miss school, adults lose work days, and medical costs drain already limited resources.
Khurram Welfare Society recognized this crisis early and made clean water its flagship initiative. Our approach is two-pronged: we install hand pumps in areas with safe underground water, and set up filtration plants where groundwater quality is poor.
Every hand pump installation is preceded by a community needs assessment. We identify the most underserved areas — places where families walk miles for water or rely on contaminated ponds and open wells. Each pump is installed by trained technicians and tested for water quality before handover.
Our two water filtration plants are equipped with multi-stage purification systems that remove arsenic, bacteria, and other contaminants. They operate daily and provide free, clean water to hundreds of residents. Community volunteers manage the plants with training and support from KWS.
Beyond infrastructure, we run awareness campaigns about water hygiene — proper storage, boiling practices, and recognizing symptoms of waterborne illness. This education component ensures that the benefits of clean water are sustained long-term.
How It Works
Community Assessment
We survey villages to identify areas with the greatest need for clean water access, testing existing water sources for contamination.
Site Selection & Planning
Working with community leaders, we select optimal locations for hand pumps or filtration plants based on population density and water table data.
Installation & Testing
Trained technicians install the equipment, and water samples are tested to ensure safety standards are met before the community starts using them.
Handover & Maintenance
We train local volunteers to maintain the equipment and conduct regular check-ups to ensure long-term operation.
Our Impact
Our clean water initiatives have transformed daily life for over 500 families. Women and children no longer walk miles for water. Waterborne diseases have significantly reduced in areas with our hand pumps and filtration plants. Schools report better attendance as children spend less time fetching water.
